Montana Capitol Campus ADA Improvements

DOWL worked with the Montana Department of Administration to conduct a self-evaluation and transition plan for the Montana State Capitol campus in Helena. The project included inventory of all exterior features including sidewalk cross slope, curb ramps, and cross walks. DOWL provided the state with a geographic information system database and visual heat maps indicating the areas of highest Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) noncompliance. The plan identified trip hazards, non-compliant pedestrian curb ramps, crosswalks, and other barriers to access. The plan presented a phased approach that consolidated improvements based on need and location. DOWL’s efforts assisted the state in eliminating significant accessibility barriers at the capitol campus through an innovative performance-based contract package.
