Log Export Dock Pile Replacement

Weyerhaueser exports logs to Asia using their Columbia River marine terminal in Longview, Washington. Ship access to the marine terminal is provided by the 1,200-foot wharf known as the Log Export Dock. The dock is constructed entirely of large, solid timbers and was originally constructed in 1970.

DOWL was retained to perform a condition assessment, including underwater inspection of the dock structure. Several structural deficiencies were found, mostly related to deteriorating timber structural elements. DOWL performed all design engineering, prepared construction documents for repairs, and prepared all environmental permit applications. The Columbia River environmental restrictions are stringent, so the team paid careful attention to construction timing, methods, and materials. DOWL prepared bid packages and solicited bids on behalf of Weyerhaeuser.
