Bolon Island Haul-Out Basin

DOWL provided engineering, survey, and permitting services for the marine structures to be constructed at the future Bolon Island Boat Haul-Out Facility in Reedsport, Oregon.

DOWL environmental specialists provided extensive services, including wetland delineation and mitigation design, biological assessment for fish and marine mammals,  stormwater management plan for DEQ, and fisheries habitat enhancement through mitigation/restoration. Because this project required an extensive amount of in-water work to construct the pier, dredging to allow commercial fishing boats to access the area, and construction of the boat basin, it was vital to limit the amount of in-water work. Environmental staff worked closely with regulatory agencies to allow dredging and pile driving without the need for in-water isolation. The team also successfully negotiated with the agencies for allowance of alternative sound attenuation for pile driving, eliminating the need for a costly and time-consuming confined bubble curtain for sound attenuation. These efforts saved a great amount of time and money, and positioned the client to complete the in-water work well ahead of schedule.
