Delta Ponds Pedestrian Bridge
DOWL led the design of this unique cable-stayed pedestrian bridge; a sweeping architectural landmark that complements nearby recreational areas. It also provides a safer east/west bicycle and pedestrian crossing near one of the Eugene area’s most heavily used interchanges.
The proximity of the four-lane Delta Highway and limited right-of-way for the central support pylon created a challenge for the design team, which they solved by using an innovative delta, or V shape, to minimize its footprint. The elegant design is further highlighted by eye-catching red LED lighting at night.
The 170-foot span was erected over the highway in a sequence that allowed for work to occur directly above live traffic on Delta Highway.
